Three Summer Days, Three Different Ways
Heading back to work after the festive break seems so unfair – just when we’ve finally got the hang of doing whatever we want on long, hot, leisurely days (it was tough, but we worked it out), it’s time to march back into the office. Suddenly, we’re back to living for the weekend all over again.
So we say, here’s to the weekend and here’s to refreshing your summer, whichever way you want.
Keep it chill
Sunnies: on. Harsh vibes: gone. Indulge in succulent share plates with mates at Harbour Bar and Kitchen, or cool down with the freshest seafood at Cyren. Sip a cool cocktail on the balcony at Cockle Bay Wharf’s Café del Mar while chill house beats waft over you and down to the water below. Pop in on a Sunday for Sunday Sessions, where CdM’s famous resident DJs bring the wavy vibes to make the transition to Monday a little smoother. Across the water – and past our cool (and giant), summer inflatables on Cockle Bay – Cohibar at Harbourside has a rooftop terrace and bottle service, which is as chill as chill gets. Float away into the weekend at Pontoon Bar, or float on the harbour itself, as our famous pedal boats make their summer comeback.
Weekend warriors, get ready for battle. (Well, dancing.) Fill up the belly at Meat District Co., with an exciting and addictive ‘paddock-to-plate’ inspired menu on offer, or ready the body and lock in plans over a Mediterranean chargrill at Nick’s Bar & Grill. Newly re-opened after epic renovations, Cargo is ready for you to get pumping on the d-floor with a cool Cargopolitan. Home The Venue can be just that – that is, if your home is where you go for killer dancefloor vibes and nine bars to help you stay hydrated. Get down at The Watershed Hotel with Latin, salsa and reggaeton for Miami Fridays, or the best mash up of RnB, trap and EDM for I <3 Saturdays. Cop some beers and some live bands at Tokio Hotel, or sample a rainbow of cocktails inspired by French Polynesia at Bungalow 8 and The Loft. Follow it all up with the best post-partying meal known to (wo)man – a big stack of pancakes at Pancakes at the Rocks, open 24 hours.
For those about to smooch, we salute you. Take your cutie to see some cuties (like koalas, wallabies, echidnas, and the cutest of all – saltwater crocodiles) at WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo, or hold hands beneath the harbour at SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium. The Star of the Show Ferris Wheel is back for another round (get it?) and there’s nothing quite like the romance of soaring above the city and seeing a whole new perspective.
Sip Italian wine and delight in delicious Italian fare together at Casa Ristorante Italiano, or take a couple’s traipse to Greece at Georges Mediterranean Bar & Grill. Beat the heat and settle in on the waterfront balcony at Kobe Jones to experience traditional Japanese cuisine fused with contemporary Californian. Delight in the succulent and sumptuous steaks at Steersons Steakhouse, paired with one of 150 wine options. Treat each other to some delectable Belgian chocolate treats at Guylian Belgian Chocolate Café, or, if Swiss chocolate is more your thing, the Lindt Chocolate Café is ready to greet you. (It’s always important to have diverse chocolate options.)
Converge with the chill crowd and take your love to the water on one of our pedal boats for a romantic spot of sailing, and on weekends until 21 January, head to the Village Green at Darling Quarter after dinner for a blockbuster movie under the stars, starting at 8.30 (after the kids’ films have ended). You can check out the program here.
So here’s to the weekend, and here’s to those summer days drifting away to hot summer nights! (We swear we came up with that on our own.)
